Members of Altrincham Rotary Club enjoyed a fine evening in the town’s Cresta Court Hotel recently, as they celebrated the 86th birthday of the Charter.
The club was among the very first
ones to be launched within the local area, becoming part of the global Rotarian network that encompasses 33,000 different clubs across 193 countries.
Its birthday celebrations were attended by 90 specially invited guests, with John Holden – the town’s Mayor – and Christine Holden - its Mayoress - among the local dignitaries who were there.
Others who made their way to the hotel for the occasion included Inner Wheel president Margaret Curry, Sale Rotary Club president Rob Chilton, Rotary District president Nigel Danby, Altrincham 41 Club chairman Bill Roberts and Altrincham Probus chairman Geoff Flood.
Things got underway with Jag Singh, the newest member of the club, reading out its Charter before a five course dinner was served.
Following this, Derek Lawson, the main speaker, provided the evening’s entertainment. He shared stories from his career as an actor, which has included appearances in shows like Coronation Street.

The club became a Rotary International member back in 1929, with the dinner to mark this occasion being held the following January.
