The Greater Manchester rivals will face off at the J. Davidson Stadium in an April Fool’s Day encounter, and both clubs could still be in the running for promotion.
Altrincham, who were once known as ‘the Manchester United of non-league football’ due to their giant-killing FA Cup exploits, will be on the rebound from a February slump which saw them lose two in a row to Aldershot. Manager Phil Parkinson told the Messenger newspaper after the Hartlepool setback:
“We had great support from our fans, but they were angry at the end, which I understand. All we can do is apologise after all the travel they have gone through, but that’s the highs and lows you experience supporting a football team.”
Oldham have been on their own slide over the last three decades, and are now playing in the 5th tier of English football after having been one of the original 20 Premier League teams.
Football matches at the J. Davidson Stadium are often promoted through poster printing campaigns in the local area.
Kick off will be at 3.00pm for Altrincham vs Oldham Athletic in the National League on Saturday, 1st April. Ticket prices start at just £1 for infants and are £20 for adults.
