The Royal British Legion is encouraging the people of Altrincham to get involved with this year’s Poppy Appeal.
The organisation has set the target of distributing 40 million poppies worldwide this year, and it hopes to raise £37 million with the help of more than 350,000 volunteer collectors.
The revenue that is generated from the poppy sales will be used to provide everyday support and care to the Armed Forces community, both past and present; the Legion has a current weekly spend of around £1.6 million.
Printing companies in Altrincham are likely to have been called upon to help raise awareness in the area. The British Legion will have been able to choose from a range of options to ensure the end-products have the biggest possible impact. Banner printing may also be used to spread the message around the town centre effectively.
Campaign organisers are looking for people who are willing to support the drive by giving up two hours of their time to run poppy stands situated within local supermarkets. Individuals don’t need a military background, just a desire to show support to the armed forces and their families.
Anyone who is in a position to help is encouraged to contact the Legion at the next local meeting. This takes place tomorrow at Altrincham Methodist Church, between 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
