With the organisers of the market claiming it will be “vitally important” to the region, the £300,000 makeover has been eagerly expected by many. However, it is only just the beginning really, with the market’s new manager wanting local people to help give it a name.
Currently, the area is simply known as 'Lower Market', but the manager of the new site has appealed to readers of a local newspaper for help with coming up with something better. The new name will no doubt be the subject of much poster, flyer and banner printing.
He explained how he sees the market as being a valuable boost to the local area. Continuing to praise the local community, Nick Johnson, whose company Market Operations now runs the site following a handover from Trafford Council, said:
“The public are the life and soul of the market so it’s only right that they should have a part in choosing the new name.
“This area is steeped in history and vital in putting the existing traders at the heart of the town and the heart of all the changes rather than being on the edge.
“I know we have a very creative community here in Trafford and I can’t wait to hear their suggestions.”
The competition for a new name ends on January 10.
