The Observer Food Monthly Awards for 2015 has named Altrincham Market ‘Best Local Market’, with this likely to lead to more readers of the paper choosing to visit it in future.
These awards have been running for 12 years and the results are determined by votes from a panel of judges, as well as Observer readers, backing the finest food retailers, restaurants, bloggers and producers from across the country.
Adding to the sense of triumph for the market was the fact that it was one of just a few victors to be located outside of the capital, and it will be able to use banner printing in Altrincham if it wants to advertise this impressive accolade.
Nick Johnson and Jenny Thompson, Altrincham Market’s two directors, were presented with the award during a recent ceremony in London’s Freemasons Hall.
Speaking to a reporter from Messenger Newspapers, Johnson said that they were thrilled to be honoured by such a well-known food award, adding:
“We wanted the market to work on a number of levels, from stimulating independent enterprise, to reinvigorating a failing town, to being celebrating of our regional identity.”
Altrincham Market underwent a major revamp a year ago and since then it has enjoyed a spectacular resurgence.
