Moose Jaw will play host to the World Men’s Curling Championship this March, bringing together curling champions from around the world for a season-ending bonspiel.
The tournament will be a 13-team round-robin, with Canada represented by the winners of the Brier national championship. This year will see the addition of curlers from Austria and China who have been absent in past edition, as well as curling powerhouses like Japan, Scotland and the United States. As is customary in curling, multiple games will be played simultaneously on side-by-side rings. Following a round-robin stage, the top six teams will progress to a knock-out bracket, with the top two getting a bye. The last rink standing will be crowned world champions.
The World Championships is considered a major tourism draw, with local hotels, restaurants and other businesses looking to benefit from an influx in fans. Businesses often use methods like flyer printing and sidewalk Signs to help attract visitors. The championships will be supported by the work of local volunteers, many from Moose Jaw curling clubs. This will be the third time the World Men’s Championships will be hosted in Moose Jaw, and the first time since 1979.
The 2025 World Men’s Curling Championship will take place from March 29 to April 6 at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw. Media coverage of the tournament will be broadcast on TSN and internationally.
