The Moose Jaw campus of Saskatchewan Polytechnic University will be undergoing a new round of renovations designed to modernize the campus and respond to new challenges.
The buildings that host the school’s construction, automotive, civil water, electrical and welding departments will be renovated to increase usability and safety. The renovations are part of a $12 million package by the provincial government aimed at improving Saskatchewan’s post-secondary schools.
The package also includes a renovation of the kinesiology building at the University of Regina and an expansion of the field at the University of Saskatchewan, adding energy-efficient lighting and allowing for play of soccer and rugby. This package, in turn, is part of a $2 billion provincial stimulus plan aimed at economic improvement.
The Polytechnic renovations will also work to make mezzanines and other walking areas more adaptable to students and faculty’s changing needs. The school has announced that the upcoming school year, beginning in the fall, will see it shift to a mixture of online courses and in-person classes for practical and hands-on skills, keeping a limited number of students on campus at a time. Institutions typically use tools like poster printing as well as online outreach to let students know about changes.
The Saskatchewan Polytechnic renovations will begin this year and are expected to be finished by the spring of 2022.
