The Power of 8 MTB, a charity bike ride held in the Moose Jaw area, will return for its 6th edition this September.
The ride invites cyclists of all levels to bike around Saskatchewan’s natural hills and mountains. Participants are challenged to bike for eight hours as part of a team of two to five people. Cyclists can also enter solo for a four or eight-hour ride. Bone Dogs will provide live music to motivate riders, and there will also be a draw among top fundraisers for a promotional wind cycling jacket, a $1,000 gift card to Western Cycle and a hop circuit.
Power of 8 raises money for MitoCanada, an organization that aims to combat mitochondrial diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and cancer. The event was postponed in 2020, with registrations for that year carrying over to 2021. It has set an ambitious goal of raising $10,000, its highest goal to date.
Events like this typically use prizes, as well as tools like brochure printing and social media, to help motivate participants and to make connections. This year’s edition will feature a new e-bike category for electric-powered bicycles.
The sixth Power of 8 MTB cycling marathon will take place on September 11 at the Buffalo Pound Provincial Park. Those interested are encouraged to register in advance and must be members of the Saskatchewan Cycling Association.
