A traveling exhibit that made its first stop at Moose Jaw’s Western Development Museum this spring has been presented with a prestigious accolade.
The award was given by the Regional Centre for Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development Saskatchewan.
The exhibit, entitled ‘Smart Science, Better Buildings’ was aimed at teaching Grade 7 students about energy efficiency and construction using environmentally friendly methods and materials.
It gave examples of such constructions from the past and present, information about alternative sources of fuel, and energy efficiency. Set up as a series of six stations, there is also a list of questions about some common building types and how energy conscious they are. The goal is that the kids who see the displays leave with a greater understanding and ideas for how to incorporate this into their own homes.
All of this came together to create the award-winning display.
The exhibit was created in Saskatoon as a partnership between the Western Development Museum and the Saskatchewan Environmental Society. It will travel to the other branches of the museum, and return to Moose Jaw in April next year.
