The series will have an abbreviated three-week run this August. It will get underway with a performance by the Heritage Fiddlers, followed by local rock band Bonnie and the Jets, and it will conclude with the SRW Country Trio, another local group that plays a mixture of country classics, soft rock and gospel.
The concert series was cancelled last year due to social distancing restrictions, but with these restrictions recently being removed in Saskatchewan, organizers decided to bring the series back. Organizer Kelly McElree described the concerts as a sign of hope to Moose Jaw Today, syaing:
“The last year has been pretty tough on people and this is a great way to get out, get some fresh air, listen to some great tunes, be amongst your friends, and be very thankful for what we have.”
The concert series will be free to the public, but it will look to raise donations for the Moose Jaw Health Foundation to support the dialysis campaign at local health centres. The series has been running since 1994 and raised over $118,000 in that time. Concerts like this, often promoted through tools like flyer posting, can provide opportunities for local musicians to perform and make community connections.
The 2021 edition of Moose Jaw’s Concerts in the Park will take place on August 4, 11 and 18 at the Crescent Park Amphitheatre.
