New Moose Jaw hospital nearly complete

Moose Jaw’s new hospital is set to open its doors to its very first patients.

Though it may be smaller than the facility it replaces, the health region noted that it could accommodate more people at a time.

With a price tag of $100 million, it can provide a wide range of services including emergency care, chemotherapy and day surgery. According to Kyle Matthies, who is the Five Hills Health Region VP for corporate strategy, over 200 people were involved during the design process for the hospital. These included doctors, patients, staff and other interested stakeholders.

Some of the features of the new building include every private room has its own washroom, having lifts in some rooms to help the nursing staff get patients out of bed, and there is also new area for families which can accommodate them if they wish to stay overnight with their loved ones.

The building also has a new wing dedicated to mental health, an MRI machine and a hyperbaric chamber, which should be ready for use in 2016. A Direct Mail printing company can produce mail outs that can be sent to every household that will be serviced by the new hospital that lets them know more details about it, such as the hours for the emergency department, where the emergency entrance is located, visiting hours and other hospital polices.

The property where the old health acre centre was located has been sold back to the city, which will use it as it sees fit.
