A new childcare centre aimed at providing positive and inclusive services has opened in Moose Jaw, with a full launch of services starting in January.
The Trusting Hands Inclusive Centre is the brainchild of educator Susan Kellock, who aims to provide greater support to children with disabilities, as well as those facing other hardships in Moose Jaw. The facility will provide a large playroom with toys, as well as a reading nook, rooms dedicated to games and music, and a fully stocked kitchen. The centre will provide care through before- and after-school programs, as well as respite programs during the day for young children or those with disabilities who do not attend a full school day.
Trusting Hands will also provide a number of themed programs such as Positively Me, for girls dealing with issues related to self-esteem and health; Aboriginal Shield for middle school students from First Nations backgrounds; and Teen Nights, which aims to help teenagers develop creativity as well as practical skills. Developmental programs and services such as this often use tools such as flyer printing and informational websites to raise awareness and let parents know if a program is right for their child.
The Trusting Hands Inclusive Centre opened its doors in early December and will begin regular programming in January, following a day camp held over winter break.
