The Moose Jaw & District Sports Hall of Fame will be holding a special induction ceremony this fall to celebrate three classes of inductees from the city’s sports history.
The ceremony will induct the 2020, 2021 and 2022 classes, after ceremonies were unable to be held in the previous two years. There will be 13 inductees in total. To be inducted for their accomplishments as an athlete are track and field national champion John Graham, CFL fullback Levi Steinhauer and local basketball legend Marg Sivhon. The ceremony will also honour “builders” who contributed to sports in Moose Jaw, including wrestling coaches Dave Pyle and Frank Abdou, high school baseball player and coach Ned Andreoni, and prolific baseball official Rocky Nickel. One team will also be honoured – the Amber Holland curling team, which won a world junior silver medal in 1992.
All three classes will be inducted in a ceremony that includes a gala dinner preceded by cocktails and socializing. Like championship banner printing, local halls of fame are a way to memorialize the accomplishments and contributions of athletes, coaches and organizers that are often overlooked. The Moose Jaw Hall was created in 2016 and so far features a total of 29 athletes.
The 2022 Moose Jaw & District Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on October 1 at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
