The Moose Jaw Health Foundation was recently given a donation that pushed it closer towards reaching its fundraising goal.
The gift amounted to $23,000, and was raised by those who participated in the Moose Jaw fundraising event.
Those who took part could choose between a five or ten kilometer route, and for many of them, it was their first organized run. Some had even been doing “practice runs” to work up to the big day.
The money collected will be used by the foundation to help it reach its capital campaign, which has a goal of $8 million. These funds will be used to purchase equipment for Moose Jaw’s new hospital, which is scheduled to open in 2015.
The equipment will include state of the art imaging equipment, including x-ray, ultrasound and mammography machines, CAT equipment, and the province’s first MRI machine.
Over the past 13 years, the race has raised over $100,000, and this year’s total was on par with last year.
According to race organizer Dawn Luhning, a lot of planning goes into the event, and it would not be possible without all the hard work and dedication of the volunteers, runners, and sponsors.
