The city of Moose Jaw has recently submitted an application to help it fund upgrades and improvements to make Crescent Park more accessible.
In March, the Enabling Accessibility Fund launched its 2015 call for proposals to help make public spaces more open to those with physical challenges, such as some veterans and seniors with disabilities, with a special emphasis being placed on making accessibility easier for children.
At a recent meeting of the city council, the proposal for the EAF was laid out to those present. Crescent Park had been identified as an area of highest concern. According to the director of parks and recreation, it currently is not very easy for those with disabilities to make use of the facility.
Under the plan, the EAF funds would be used to make the washrooms, playground and other amenities more accessible.
The total cost for this is estimated to be around $60,000. A printing company can create signage that will let the public know about the park being more accessible.
The city currently has $27, 595 earmarked in the 2015 budget that can be used to help fund the project.
A response to the application is expected to be received before the fall, and this will determine when the work can begin, and also how much will be able to be completed this year.
