The Paws for Pledges radiothon will return to Moose Jaw’s airwaves this November, with the purpose of raising money for the Moose Jaw Humane Society.
The event will run for 12 hours and will focus on appeals for donations, as well as special talk and musical programming. The event has set a target of raising $85,000 before going off the air. The radiothon will also encourage people who are able to adopt dogs and cats who are in need of a home.
In its past eight years, Paws for Pledges has raised over $725,000 dollars for the Humane Society. Charitable organizations have long used radio and telethons to help raise funds, with hosts communicating a growing total creating a sense of communal effort, complementing other promotional methods, such as flyer printing.
While much of the focus will be on the 12-hour radio event, the Humane Society has opened donations for the weeks leading up to the event, which will count towards the Paws for Pledges total. The society has also launched a silent auction campaign to further raise money heading into the winter months. Auction items are often donated by local small businesses and have included clothes, beauty products and unique craft items.
The 2021 edition of Paws for Pledges will take place on November 5 and will be broadcast on Moose Jaw’s Country 100 from 6 AM to 6 PM.
