The Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village and Museum will be holding its annual Threshing Bee event this September. This event gives visitors a chance to see and try out practices that have been a part of agricultural life for hundreds of years.
The Bee will feature demonstrations and competitions of traditional farming. Past editions have included events such as plowing, rope-making, blacksmithing with traditional equipment, and the eponymous threshing. There will also be a showcase of vintage tractors and cars, with a parade one of the typical favourite events. Each day begins with a cash-only pancake breakfast, with other food and drink vendors available throughout the weekend. There are also a number of spots for weekend RV camping.
The Sukanen Ship Museum will also be open throughout the weekend, with over 50 exhibits about the history of Moose Jaw and pioneer life available to the public. Past editions have also included a dance and jam evening, the sale of cookbooks and Calendars for the upcoming year, and more. This is the last major event of the Pioneer Village’s season. Museums and other educational programs often use tools such as brochure printing and interactive displays to help carry on memories of the past.
The 2024 Threshing Bee will take place at the Sukanen Ship Museum on September 7 and 8.
