Fire in the Belly: Saskatchewan Women Artists showcases a selection of work from the museum’s permanent collection. The collection includes a variety of media, such as painting, ceramics, graphic design, video, and photography, and the works range from the 1960s to the present. Featured artists include Cara Gay Driscoll, Gabriela Garcia-Luna, Wynona Mulcaster and Doris Wall Larson.
The museum has described Fire in the Belly as part of an effort to call greater attention to the work of women artists and their passion:
“This exhibition highlights the strength and compelling nature of the work of women artists in Saskatchewan. Fire in the Belly refers to the passion, drive and tenacity that artists need to establish and sustain careers in the arts… and this is especially true of women artists.”
In addition to in-person tours of the exhibit, Fire in the Belly is available online as a virtual tour that allows the viewer to move through a simulated gallery area. It will run alongside other woman-focused exhibits like I Do Not Have My Words and Through Her Eyes.
Fire in the Belly: Saskatchewan Women Artists opened on February 12 and will run until May 2.
