Those who live in Moose Jaw and the surrounding area will now be able to access MRI diagnostic imaging in their own community. This has been lauded as
the first piece of equipment of its kind to be made available in rural Saskatchewan.
The province’s health minister noted that this will make it easier for those not in urban centers to obtain timely health care, and get both diagnosis and possible treatment much faster than before.
So far, this upgrade in technology has allowed 370 patients from the Cyprus and Five Hills regions to have their names taken off wait lists to receive MRIs in Saskatoon and Regina. They will be the first to have theirs done using the new equipment. Notices, sent out on clinic Letterheads, can be used to let patients know when their newly scheduled appointment times are coming up, as they may be much sooner now that they are off the longer wait lists.
The CEO and president of the Five Hills Health Region feels that these reduced wait times will translate into better patient outcomes as well as less need for people to travel long distances for diagnostic imaging.
