Queen Elizabeth recently achieved the designation of being the monarch with the longest reign over Britain in history, and Moose Jaw’s Mayor Higgins issued a proclamation about the milestone.
The Queen, who has ruled for 63 years, was recognized for her efforts to improve the world through her public service, and Mayor Higgins remarked that as citizens, people in the community should be proud.
Along with the announcement, she also let the public know that pamphlets that had been made available by the Monarchist League of Canada were available at city hall. The Lt. Governor of the province also issued a statement that recognized the importance of the day. She noted that the monarch has presided over a group of nations as a commonwealth, and under her hand, they have developed a partnership that has stood them in good stead. She also pointed out that she has provided a point of stability during a time of rapid change, and has set an example through her dedication to the values of service, faith and duty.
She further went on to say that the public can use her request to not have the milestone marked by anything elaborate as an inspiration to do good for its own sake.
