The new site, called Moose Jaw Marketplace, offers an online shopping experience that provides local products such as food, jewellery, home decor and electronics. Vendors include Hua Jing Equipment Store, Little Spa on the Prairie and Hot Nana’s Fine Foods. The market allows for customers to rate products and businesses as on other websites and combine orders from multiple stores into one virtual cart.
Jim Dixon, the Moose Jaw Manager of Economic Development, expressed his satisfaction in the platform’s launch:
“There are currently 50 businesses that are in the program at this point, which we are very happy with, it's more than we initially expected so there's obviously some buy in. You go, you shop, add to your cart, check out and you make your purchase."
This year has seen many small businesses adapting to make online orders and delivery a larger aspect of their business. Tools like Business Cards and social media profiles have become even more important to direct potential customers to websites, apps or phone numbers to schedule delivery or pick-up. Moose Jaw Marketplace is designed to help small businesses and artisans adapt by providing a ready-made platform with a concentrated local audience.
Moose Jaw Marketplace launched in late November and is currently available online.
