The city of Moose Jaw has announced that the Kinsmen Club of Moose Jaw has purchased naming rights to the new park and recreation area in West Park.
The new park, currently under construction, is set to include a play structure, pavilion, basketball court, spray pad and soccer field. The agreement will see the Kinsmen pay $100,000 for the naming rights in 10 payments, in exchange for a 25-year licensing term and favourable consideration for renewal afterwards. Costs of signage will be split with the club, and the Kinsmen will also feature on a donor wall installed at the park.
Naming rights for public facilities, ranging from rec centres to arenas, are often lucrative and competitive. They offer companies and organizations the chance to have their brand included unobtrusively in poster printing, radio broadcasts, banner printing and daily discussion.
The Kinsmen Club highlighted the planned playground’s wheelchair accessibility and potential for children’s activity as motivating factors for its sponsorship. The club recently celebrated its 100th birthday with a flag raising in front of the city’s famous giant moose statue. Some of the fraternal organization’s projects include local sports, fundraising for cystic fibrosis and the annual Santa Claus Parade.
The new naming rights will come into effect on October 1, in time for the park’s grand opening.
