Moose Jaw gaming gathering to return

The long-running Gamer’s Expo, or GAX, will return to Moose Jaw this February for a weekend-long marathon of video and tabletop games.

GAX describes itself as Saskatchewan’s largest and longest-running gaming expo. It regularly features tournaments for multiplayer games such as Super Mario Kart and Smash Brothers Ultimate, as well as computer games played over a local area network, which allows for faster connections.

There will be video games of every generation available for gamers to try out or enjoy together. Board, card and roleplaying games are also common, particularly games like Settlers of Catan and Dungeons & Dragons. The goal is to create a space where people can freely move between games.

The event will also feature a drawing for a $50 gift card for a video game platform or local store of choice. Proceeds of the event traditionally go to local organizations like Hunger in Moose Jaw and the Children’s Wish Foundation.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own equipment, such as headsets, consoles and tabletop games, as well as to dress in sci-fi and fantasy costumes. Events and conventions like this, often promoted through flyer printing and social media, provide an opportunity for like-minded hobbyists to get together.

The 2022 edition of GAX is scheduled for between February 4 and 6 at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre.
