The Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery, also known as the MJMAG, has opened a set of new exhibits based on the works of two sculptors and ceramic artists.
One highlight of the new exhibits is “tRACEs: Lines, Lives Loves” by Canadian ceramic artists Jeannie Mah and Heidi McKenzie. The two artists’ works interact with each other and comment on Canadian identity and the experiences of both artists’ fathers immigrating to Canada.
Both McKenzie and Mah will also have solo exhibitions. McKenzie’s “Brick By Brick: Absence vs. Presence” featuring photographs, video projection, and augmented reality, as well as sculpture, while Mah’s “Invitation au Voyage” uses porcelain vessels to examine the historic relationship between China, Europe, and the Middle East.
This set of exhibits will be displayed alongside the MJMAG’s permanent collection of art, as well as its Heritage Gallery of objects from Moose Javian and Canadian history. Galleries and museums are often well integrated into the local community, whether it be drawing on volunteer efforts or using local Print shops for explanatory and advertising material. In addition to the new display, the MJMAG will be looking to build on these community connections with its annual ParkArt outdoor display and fundraiser this July.
“tRACEs”, “Brick by Brick” and “Invitation au Voyage” opened at the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery on May 26, and all three exhibits will be open until September 3.
