The annual Festival of Trees fundraiser will take on a 1920s “speakeasy” theme this year, taking attendees back to the days when Moose Jaw earned its “notorious” nickname.
The event, dubbed “Sugar & Spice & Notoriously Nice”, aims to transport diners back 100 years to the Prohibition era, adopting the decor and trappings of a secret “speakeasy” bar. There will be an Italian buffet and craft cocktails for refreshment throughout the evening. Attendees can also hit the dance floor, with music provided by local group Mascara and award-winning singer Melissa Mannett. The annual Festival of Trees fundraising gala uses a different theme each year, with the speakeasy theme much-requested and in the works for several years.
One of the features of the gala is auctions for goods and services donated from local businesses. All money raised will go towards local Moose Jaw hospitals, who are looking to build a new bronchoscopy centre for lung cancer and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) patients. Fundraisers like this often use methods like poster printing and on-stage presentations to help provide more information about the charity and encourage attendees to give.
Sugar & Spice & Notoriously Nice will take place on the evening of October 19 at the Moose Jaw Events Centre. The dinner will be followed by the traditional Festival of Trees brunch on the morning of October 20.
