The Social Studies Saskatchewan (SSS) conference will be coming to Moose Jaw this October, and it will have a focus on how individuals and communities have responded to challenging times.
The event is meant to encourage professional growth in teachers and educators of social studies and related subjects like history, political science and sociology. The conference will consist of a series of keynote talks on the subject of resilience, and it will be interspersed with networking events.
The keynote speaker will be filmmaker and historian Gwynne Dyer. Other presenters will include Angela Hill of the Canadian Red Cross on “Crisis Responses Around the World”, and the Bank of Canada Museum’s Adam Young speaking on “Government Interventions during a pandemic.
The SSS conference will also provide a luncheon, annual general meeting and other opportunities for networking. Events like this can be just as important for workers in academia and education as in other sectors, with Business Cards often being exchanged between attendees. The Social Studies Saskatchewan organization also provides grants, such as travel funding and the David Hawkins Memorial Scholarship, and it promotes networking and skill development throughout the year, in addition to hosting the annual conference.
The 2021 edition of the Social Studies Saskatchewan conference will take place at the Grant Hall Hotel in Moose Jaw on October 15 and 16.
