Moose Jaw charity run to hold 5th edition

The Walk & Run 4 ALZ will return to Moose Jaw this August, making it five years of charitable fundraising for the annual run.

The event takes place along the trails of Wakamow Valley, overlooking the Moose Jaw River. It is considered an intermediate-level course with rolling hills and uneven terrain, creating a challenging environment for runners. Participants can register for a walk or run of a 5 or 10-kilometre distance, with the two distances having different routes. There will also be a “mini run” for children from 4 to 11 years old. The race began in 2019 with over 100 participants and has grown every year.

Money raised through registration fees and other donations will go towards the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan, which contributes to research and treatment for the debilitating disease. Participants in runs such as this typically solicit donations from family and friends to help provide motivation for their athletic feat. The run has raised over $30,000 in its previous four editions. Charitable events like this often use methods such as brochure printing and social media posts to help explain the good that they do.

The 2024 Walk Run 4 ALZ will kick off at Connors Park in Moose Jaw on the morning of August 24, with the run going through the Wakamow Valley area. Registration is open until August 21.
