The Moose Jaw Miller Express are getting ready to launch their 2022 season with the addition of a local ace.
The Express are part of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL), a competition that allows university athletes to compete in the summer while maintaining amateur eligibility. Among the university athletes joining up with the Express is Moose Jaw native Cam O’Reilly, an 18-year-old pitcher who has been turning heads playing for St. Clair College in Ontario. He was named the top pitcher in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association, with an earned run average of just 0.88 across four games. O’Reilly also had a successful stint with the Moose Jaw Canucks of the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League in 2021.
In addition to O’Reilly, Moose Jaw’s signings include British Columbian infielder Austin Gurney and Colorado-born players Kellan Voggesser and Luke Lachance. As part of the WCBL season, the Miller Express will play against 10 other teams from Alberta and Saskatchewan.
The 2022 season will see the return of the full WCBL after a 2021 season without American players, in which the Express and other Saskatchewan teams did not participate. Amateur, collegiate and semi-professional teams like the Express often use colourful Signs and banner printing to appeal to the community and provide a more intimate sports experience than the major leagues.
