Player’s Collectibles, a Moose Jaw store that sells vintage collectibles and furniture, will be changing owners after long-time proprietor David Harvey decided to retire.
Harvey became the owner of Player’s Collectibles 29 years ago. At the time, the store mostly sold magazines, but under Harvey’s ownership, it shifted its focus to antiques and collectors’ goods. Today, the store stocks items such as vases, jewellery and glassware, as well as figurines and toys from past decades.
The store specializes in collecting figurine brands, such as Royal Doulton, Royal Crown Derby and Pendelphine. Harvey began collecting with antique spoons and jars, with his first items being a pair of sterling silver grape serving spoons that are still in his possession today. After a number of jobs, including working as a fisherman, Harvey turned his passion into a business.
The store has been sold to a business owner operating out of Regina, and it will be managed by a couple who will be moving to Moose Jaw from Toronto. Harvey cited a desire to rest his feet and the changing nature of the collectibles business as the reason for the change. Vintage and collectible stores like this have had to use social media and streaming alongside time-tested tools like Catalogues and brochure printing to reach their customers during the pandemic.
Player’s Collectibles will officially change ownership on April 21.
