Residents of Moose Jaw who travel to Regina will soon find that they have a smoother ride.
The province has provided funding for a variety of infrastructure projects, one of which will be improvements to Highway 1, which is the route many choose to take when they need to travel between the two communities. The plan calls for at least 22 kilometers of repaving, and the government feels that this work will be set to begin sometime before the end of the year.
The anticipated dates for the road upgrades to begin and be completed have not yet been set, as they will depend on the weather and other factors. If the conditions are similar to the warm ones the province saw last year, the work could continue into November. While the upgrades are taking place, it is expected that one of the lanes on the western portion of the route will need to be closed in the area under construction. Signs and other printed items that will be used for the project can be produced by a printing company.
The Saskatchewan government has allocated $1.5 billion for highways and other infrastructure. The budget for this particular project has not yet been decided, as the tenders for it have yet to come in.
