Over 400 volunteers recently came out in Moose Jaw to help make sure that everyone in their community has enough to eat.
Those who wished to lend a helping hand took part in the Moose Jaw Food Bank’s “Better Together Food Drive”. According to the event’s organizer Karen MacNaughton, the goal was to collect enough donations through this one big push to ensure that the bank’s cupboards would be filled with about half of what they need for an entire year.
The volunteers were sorted into teams who then spread out across the community, knocking on doors and asking if the occupants had any non-perishable food that they would like to donate. Since it was on Halloween, most people were already expecting a knock at the door, so it was felt that it would be an ideal way to canvas without being too intrusive. A flyer printing company can produce materials that promote the event throughout the area and let residents know that their contributions would be greatly appreciated.
Those who gave their time to help out included the police chief, first responders, as well as police officers and many other area residents. People were very generous with both their time and donations, and over 45,000 pounds of food was gathered. The volunteers then packed up the donations for later distribution to those in need.
