To be held virtually and hosted by Moose Jaw, the Saskatchewan Festival of Words will return for its 25th edition this summer.
The four-day festival will include a number of livestreamed talks and panels with authors, editors and other festival guests. Guests include multiple-time Governor’s General Award-winning fiction writer Guy Vanderhaeghe, acclaimed fantasy novelist C. L. Polk, mystery novelist Dorothy Ellen Palmer, Japanese-born author and graphic novelist Hiromi Goto and Saskatchewan poet Carol Rose GoldenEagle.
The online event will look to give a sense of physical space through virtual tours of Moose Jaw venues and walking tours of local areas like Crescent Park. In-person attendance may also be possible at some events.
The 2021 Festival of Words will also look to create a sense of community through online spaces like an open chat room and a message board where guests can interact. Making connections between authors and readers is a major reason why literary events are so popular, with Business Cards changing hands alongside literary Journals and manuscripts. The Festival of Words will also include an online bookstore and trivia section. Popular events like the Kids Ink Workshop and Great Big Book Club will also be returning.
The 25th annual Festival of Words will stream from Moose Jaw between July 15 and 18. Tickets are available on a pay-what-you-can basis.
