Moose Jaw and District Emergency Medical Services has recently made an announcement about four new additions to its fleet of vehicles.
Two bicycles have been purchased that will allow paramedics to carry all their equipment with them while they are out in the public. They will not only be able to provide assistance, but also educate the public about safety.
The bikes can be deployed both when an emergency situation occurs, and also to help prevent them from happening in the first place. Brochure printers can produce pamphlets and other materials that they can distribute to the public to give them more information about how to stay safe and administer first aid.
Provided by Boh’s Cycle and Sporting Goods, the bikes will be fully equipped with all the required safety equipment and will be styled in a way that makes them easily identifiable. Each will carry a complement of EMS materials, including a defibrillator, airway device and medications. They have been scaled down so that they can easily be carried on the bicycles. They will help medics deal with emergencies like trauma, heatstroke, and falls. If needed, they will be able to quickly contact an ambulance with more advanced lifesaving tools.
The paramedics who will using these new vehicles will be deployed in pairs, and along with their regular routes, they will be making appearances at special community events.
