Cutting horse competitions are based on cow-herding traditions and involve using a horse to isolate one cow from a herd. The sport is often a family affair and involves both male and female riders. There are a variety of different categories on the competition based on experience, professionalism and the age of the horse. Each category has a purse of $500. Two shows will be held over the course of three days, with riders able to enter multiple events.
The SCHA also acts as a feeder to larger national and international cutting horse competitions, such as the one at the Calgary Stampede. Rodeo events such as this are often promoted through colourful flyer printing and other advertising, and can feature a carnival atmosphere with games and live entertainment, as well as equestrian competition. Promotional material emphasizes the community nature of cutting competitions:

The 2023 Saskatchewan Cutting Horse Association show in Moose Jaw will take place from August 4 to 6 at the Moose Jaw Exhibition.
