Windsor residents, as well as tourists from all over, will soon have a chance to learn more about the history of the area – and the role it played in the war of 1812.
Sculptor Mark Williams recently took photos of actors playing the role of General Isaac Brock and Chief Tecumseh in the site where the statues will one day be located. They were dressed in period costumes, and posed while he took the pictures, which he will use as guides during the process of creating the works of art.
They will be situated in Patterson Park atop a six-foot platform in a sunken, ‘O’ shaped area.
Visitors will be able to use an interactive device, which will give information about the two historical figures and the role they played in the war. They were largely responsible for the defeat of the American forces.
Williams has created several other life-sized sculptures, which have been placed in several areas around the city.
The works of art will be made from bronze, and will be in full-color. Their placement will make them easy to see by anyone coming down Sandwich Street.
It is hoped that they will be ready for unveiling by Labor Day of 2015.
Statues such as these can generate a lot of interest among tourists and locals alike, and they make excellent subject matter for the materials created by postcard printing firms.
