An introductory pottery class will take place in Windsor on Valentine’s Day.
The hands-on workshop will explore the two core stages of ceramic work: wheel throwing and glazing. Designed for beginners, the class introduces students to the physical and technical demands of working with clay while emphasizing process over perfection.
During the session, participants learn how to operate the potter’s wheel speed, emphasizing control, balance, and the relationship between finger motion, hand pressure, and rotating clay. Once attendees finish the initial form, the organizer will set the pieces aside to dry before they are prepared for finishing.
The workshop schedule allows participants to complete decorating and glazing on the same day. Instructors will guide participants through basic surface decoration and glazing techniques, allowing students to observe how raw materials transition into finished objects.
After the session, participants will leave their creations to dry naturally for several weeks before undergoing two kiln firings. The first firing stabilizes the clay, while the second, following a clear glaze application, renders the pottery suitable for everyday use.
Finished pieces will be microwave and dishwasher-safe.
Flyer printing is commonly used to prepare simple instructional sheets that accompany practical workshops like this one.
The workshop will take place at the Expressive Brush Art Studio, 3919 Howard Avenue, Windsor, on February 14, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.
