Windsor Women in Construction raise money for Hiatus House

The group Windsor Women in Construction recently raised $3000 worth of needed items for Hiatus House. The group solicited help from various businesses in Windsor. Some businesses placed a donation box in their offices, some donated money and others donated goods such as toilet paper and children’s pyjamas. They also donated diapers, toys, makeup and clothing.

Hiatus House is a centre for abused women and children. It was opened in 1976 and offers emergency shelter from those fleeing abuse, transitional housing and therapy for children and women. It currently has 45 residents, 30 of whom are children. To solicit more help over the Christmas season, Hiatus House has created an online flyer. Printing the flyer out will allow Windsor residents to fill out the form and mail it along with a cash donation.

Windsor Women in Construction, which was established in April of this year and consists of 50 members and is associated with the Windsor Construction Association. The group has had several networking meetings and a golf outing. They are considering holding a golf tournament next summer to raise money for next Christmas. They chose to help Hiatus House since most of the clients are women and, according to Christine Prymack, “women helping women resonated with our membership.”

More and more women are forming networking groups such as Windsor Women in Construction. Women often have very different experiences in business than men, and often don’t get many chances to network with one another.
