Windsor welcomes back blues festival

Windsor, Ontario, will once again host BluesFest International this summer, with the multi-talented Mark Farner to headline the three-day event. Now Canada's biggest festival of blues music, the Riverfront Festival Plaza will be the place for blues-lovers to be over the weekend of July 13 – 15.

Now celebrating its 18th anniversary, the festival has taken place every year since 1995 and has grown steadily in popularity, so much so that it is now joined by a sister festival in London, Ontario. Previous years’ programs have featured such names as John Mayall and Blues Traveler.

As well as Farner, who is set to perform at 11:00 pm on the Saturday and is perhaps best known for his work with blues-rockers Grand Funk Railroad, other notable acts at this year’s festival include the fusion of American and Argentinean sounds that is Mo’ Blues, psychedelic veterans Big Brother and the Holding Company, and the crowd-wowing Popa Chubby.

Needless to say, the organizers will want to get the word out about the festival and produce merchandise, with poster printing likely to be the order of the day as attendees seek to get their hands on Posters of the performers and the lineup itself.

Organizers have designated Sunday’s itinerary as Family Day, with a family of four welcome to attend for $10. This offers an affordable and child-friendly alternative to the Friday and Saturday events, which are open only to those over the age of 18 and cost $25 and $30 respectively to attend. Alternatively, a three-day pass can be purchased for $40. BluesFest International’s website has full details of how to buy tickets online or via local retailers.
