A large group recently gathered in Windsor to make a difference in their local community, as part of the first meeting of the city’s new 100 Men Who Give a Damn organization.
The men each agreed to donate $100 to a local nonprofit and representatives of three different community service organizations were on hand, each of which had a chance to give a five-minute presentation to try and persuade the men to choose them as the recipient of the group’s donation. Once they were finished, the men voted, and the winner was given the pool of funds.
Jeff Casey, who got the ball rolling by starting the club, got the idea from similar groups that have started in at least a dozen different American cities, and also from the women’s version, which has been holding meetings in Windsor for several years. He wanted to make it easy for people to donate and to learn more about how the money would be used.
The not-for-profit that was chosen was Windsor Residence for Young Men, which provides a refuge for homeless men ranging in age from 16 to 24.
An event like this can make it fun and easy to donate to a local charity. Flyer printing firms can help to spread the word by creating promotional materials that can be distributed to the public, generating a lot of interest.
