Windsor mall welcomes Boxing Day crowds

Windsor’s Devonshire Mall reported a strong finish to 2013, as thousands of shoppers came out for the annual tradition of Boxing Day sales.

The mall’s general manger, Chris Savard noted that this year’s holiday shopping season saw an increase of 22% over last year’s sales. He feels that this is an excellent indicator overall of the economic health of the city.

It was expected that more than 40,000 shoppers would be out searching for deals and discounts, and they were not disappointed. Many of the retailers offered deeply reduced prices. This is more than double the number of visitors that the mall gets on a regular shopping day, and roughly equal to the crowd that came out to on ‘Black Friday’.

One of the stores that really attracted the customers was electronics dealer EB Games. People were lined up to try and find a bargain on the latest games and accessories.

The mall now has all its entrances open for use, as the new Target store allows foot traffic to flow through to the rest of the building. This made it much easier for shoppers to access all the goods and services it has to offer.

The mall, which provides jobs for over 2,500 people, is one of the largest employers in the city. It also provides other spin-off economic benefits for a wide range of businesses, such as professional Print companies who create signage, Business Cards, and other printed materials for the many different establishments in the retail center.
