A food industry conference attracted hundreds of delegates and other interested parties to the Windsor area recently.
The three-day event, entitled ‘Bring Food Home 2013’ saw the discussion of such important issues as justice, sovereignty, and security.
More than 450 participants from Ontario, Quebec, and Michigan represented all of the different sectors of the production chain. They came to share their different points of view as well as their best practices and the lessons they had learned.
Farmers, food distributors, retailers, and representatives from the fields of education and public health were invited to attend any of the 50 different sessions. For those who were interested in seeing examples of sustainable models of food production, there were also tours of local facilities such as a greenhouse, a mushroom farm, and even an urban farm in Detroit
Nutrition programs for students were also a featured topic.
One of the areas that garnered a lot of attention was the concept of local food ownership. It was noted that as food becomes more of a global commodity, the area’s food supply is more at risk. Community-driven food production skills are a very important feature of helping to negate this.
At conferences such as this, materials produced by a Print company can provide an excellent way for exhibitors to share their information with delegates. They can take them home and continue to use them for some time.
This conference is held on a bi-annual basis, and is the third to take place.
