The Windsor Fire and Rescue Service recently announced that it is looking for up to 12 new recruits to help fill out its ranks.
The service wants to find new first responders to help replace those who are leaving due to retirement among the veteran members of staff. According to Windsor Fire Chief Bruce Montone, this will help to build a list of interested parties from which it can draw for the next two and a half years. He notes that this is a standard procedure and a normal situation.
Along with this call for future firefighters, the city council also released information about the investigation into the possibility of sharing training facilities with other fire departments in the county. A study that was commissioned recommends that they come together to help fund and share the purchase costs of a new training unit that could be used by all of them. A printer that performs binding services will be able to produce professional Copies of the final report for distribution to any interested parties.
Chief Montone noted that if this route were followed, it would be part of a long history of cooperation between the different fire services, which have always come to each other’s aid when needed.
It was further recommended that a database of possible instructors and courses in fire control be built that can be accessed via a common training website.
