Crowds at the Toronto BMX Jam 2011 were greeted by death-defying stunts and tricks as riders competed to take home the coveted first prize in the professional freestyle competition.
Held at the Better Living Centre, the BMX Jam was driven by fan interest in local favorite Drew Bezanson, who, in spite of the home-crowd advantage, was disappointed to finish as runner up. His second place finish was despite getting air time that proved to be higher than any other competitor at this BMX event. Even all his tailwhip backflips and monstrous flairs could not get him the necessary placement to beat the 16-year-old.
The remaining bikers in the top five consisted of Chris Hughes, a Mirraco rider; Mykel Larrin from DK in fourth place; and in fifth place was Steve Moxley, a local rider. Despite his failure to finish in the top five, John Heaton deserves a mention for coming in sixth place. At 30 years of age, Heaton attempted a comeback of sorts at this year’s event. He was a permanent fixture on the BMX competition circuit in the early part of the last decade, and finishing in sixth at his age and after years away from competition was not unimpressive.
The event was filled to capacity, thanks in part to heavy promotion by the organizers. Poster printing firms in Windsor and the surrounding area will have been able to provide their services in printing Flyers and Banners, and considering the success of the event, will be on standby for next year's event where runner-up Bezanson will be hoping to take the crown away from this year's winner.
