Ontario Securities Commission to host public information session for investors

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is holding a series of seminars to make more people aware of their trading rights and responsibilities, and one will take place in Windsor on September 17.

The mandate of the OSC is to make and enforce the rules surrounding the trading of securities. The aim of the set of sessions is to increase awareness and knowledge of the organization and the situations in which they can be of assistance.

The head of the commission’s new Office of the Investor, Eleanor Farrell, remarked that she recognizes how important it is for members of the public to be informed about how investing works, how to manage their finances, and how to get help if and when they need it. Those who attend the meeting will receive valuable tips to help them to get the most for their money. Informational materials, perhaps produced by a local Print company, will be available for those in attendance to take home with them.

It was also noted that it is very important to research potential investments, and that people need to learn how to do this. A big part of this is learning how to find their way through the many different educational resources and regulatory agencies that exist to help protect the investor. The seminar will provide information about how to do so, and also how to report problems should they arise.

Consumers seeking information can start their search at the OSC’s website, or call their toll free number to speak with a commission representative.
