Authors get scribbling for Bookfest Windsor

Bookfest Windsor 2012 will take place at the Capitol Theatre and Arts Center and various other locations next month. Presented by Literary Arts Windsor, it will feature readings by authors, panel discussions, and workshops and presentations by student poetry contest winners.

Among the authors scheduled to attend Bookfest are Thomas Lynch, Anita Rau Badami, Eric Walters, Paul Vasey, and Windsor native Carol Anne Biddle. The authors will be reading from their works and also participating in panel discussions on such topics as ‘Telling stories for young adults’ and ‘Poetry café’, which will be moderated by Stephen Pender and will feature several authors. The student poetry contest is open to Grades 1 – 12, with this year's theme being ‘Revolution’.

Organizers of the festival are bound to be working with local printing companies to prepare for this popular event. Banners will probably be hung around the city advertising the event and the schedule of the festival may be seen published in a brochure.

Bookfest Windsor is also holding a writing contest called BFW Bound, in which the authors win the chance to read at the festival. Authors must be over 18 and writing accepted is either prose of 250 words or fewer and poetry of 30 lines or fewer.

With the Bookfest set to take place October 25 – 27, the deadline for entering is October 5. The first, second, and third prize winners will have the chance to read their work on October 25. For more information, including ticket prices, visit the event’s website or call 519-253-7639.
