Whitby workshop to feature Atlantic Canadian flavours

A Whitby school that combines cookery with learning has plans in the works for an activity that will provide a taste of a traditional East Coast kitchen party.

Dish/Play is a Whitby-based business that offers hands-on cooking classes, and it has prepared a menu of items that are favourites in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.

During the function, the attendees will learn how to prepare lobster rolls, cheddar and chive scones and smoked salmon chowder. The meal will wrap up with freshly baked blueberry grunt, which is a popular dish that features wild blueberries. Everyone will be served a welcome cocktail, and a chef will guide the group. The evening will run for three hours, including time for dancing, and everyone is asked to wear closed-toed shoes. Along with the food, there will be traditional music from the Maritimes.

When the workshop is over and it is time to head for home, each participant will receive Copies of the recipes from the class to take home. Print shops can prepare materials like this, as well as materials like aprons, chef’s hats and custom Drinkware.

Dish/Play will be offering its East Coast Kitchen Dance Party on March 12th. Everyone who registers is asked to arrive at 12 Stanley Court in Whitby by no later than 6:00 pm.
