Whitby takes on environmental stewardship project

This June, Whitby residents will be rolling up their sleeves and putting on their gloves so they can be part of a day of hands-on environmental action.

Rosedale Park will be getting some TLC, thanks to the efforts of the volunteers who are set to celebrate pollinator week. The clean-up will be led by LEAF, and while all ages are welcome, those who are 16 and under will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Those who plan on helping will need to wear closed toed shoes or a pair of sturdy boots, and gardening gloves will also make the task easier. As the event will be held rain or shine, suitable clothing should be worn, and everyone will be cleaning up litter, removing invasive weed species which will make the space more welcoming to native trees and other plants. The session will run for two hours, and advanced registration is required.

When local residents are given the opportunity to take part in stewardship activities, it encourages them to become stakeholders in protecting the environment. A brochure printing company can design informational materials that provide details about an organization and what it does, and these can be distributed during public events.

This chance to be part of Whitby’s “green team” of volunteers is scheduled for June 21st, and will start at 10:30 am.
