Whitby dinner to showcase students sustainable harvest

Students at Durham College work hard on their studies throughout the year, and an al fresco dining event will give Whitby diners a chance to sample some of the fruits of their labours, which will be transformed into a variety of dishes with locally grown produce taking centre stage.

This harvest dinner will be built around a menu featuring produce planted, cared for, and then harvested by students in the college’s farming and horticultural programs. The plan is for it to be held outdoors, weather permitting, and tickets to take a seat at the table are $125.

Following farm-to-fork principles, the meal will demonstrate how tasty sustainability can be, and the food will be prepared for the diners by students enrolled in the school’s special event and hospitality programs. Guests are invited to arrive when the doors open at 5:30 pm, and the event is scheduled to wrap up at 9:00 pm.

This type of function can provide students with a practical example of how they can put what they are learning into practice. Printed Menus, VIP Invitations, and even uniforms and name tags for the servers in an event like this can all be supplied by area Print shops.

Whitby’s W. Galen Weston Centre for Food will be hosting this special dinner on September 19. Everyone is welcome to enjoy this celebration of the harvest season.
