The Writer’s Community of York Region will be looking to hold its annual book fair and gathering this June, also known as The Bookshelf.
The fair will see local book stores, vendors, and publishers offer their wares. The wide variety of items on display at events like this sometimes come with sales or Promotional Products like bookmarks and Catalogues. In addition to the book sales, the event will also include a number of readings and talks by over 50 local authors. For younger attendees, there will be a Kidz Zone including free crafts, Plinko, and cosplayers dressed as popular children's characters.
Attendees will be challenged to complete a literary scavenger hunt by filling out a ‘Book Genre Card’ with titles from various different types of Books. In addition, there will be spot prizes given out every 20. The growing popularity of small bookstores as community hubs and the ease of self-publishing with printing services or small publishers has helped fuel community events like this. All proceeds from Bookshelf will be reinvested in future events.
The Bookshelf Book Fair is scheduled to take place on the morning and early afternoon of June 6 at the Newmarket Community Centre & Lions Hall. Attendance is free. Organizers have said that they are monitoring the COVID-19 situation and may reschedule or cancel in the coming months.
