A new attraction has been set up on Newmarket’s Riverwalk Commons.
The HollisWealth Story Pod is intended to help provide users of the area with a chance to enjoy a good book while they relax on one of the nearby wooden benches. They can read for as long as they wish, then return the book to the shelf so that the next person who comes along can have an opportunity to peruse it as well.
This latest addition to the Riverwalk came about through a partnership between AKB Architecture and HollisWealth. Bill McTavish, who works with HollisWealth, got the idea when he was in Los Angeles and saw something similar.
The reading materials were obtained through Scholastic Books and also contributions from the public. Anyone who has a book they feel others would like is welcome to donate it to the Story Pod. A banner printing firm can create signage that can be used in the area to let people know the rules of how to use the pod and how they can make their own contributions.
Many people stopped by for the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the pod. McTavish noted that he feels it is a great example of a partnership between the city and the private sector, and he hopes it will see a lot of use by community residents.
